Hamilton County Scouts “do a good turn” for Memorial Day

On Saturday, May 27, area Scouts participated in Memorial Day commemorations across Hamilton County. Here are a few highlights:

Fishers BSA Troop 199

Around 65 Scouts and family members from BSA Troop 199, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Bryan Spellman, placed around 2,100 flags at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens on Allisonville Road in Fishers.

“Scouts, siblings, parents, and grandparents spent the morning honoring our veterans,” Spellman said.

They will collect the flags next Saturday and store them.

Scout Troop 199 meets on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:15 pm at Holy Family Lutheran Church at 11445 Fishers Pointe Blvd. For more information, visit troop199.org.

Noblesville BSA Troop 150 and Cub Pack 150

Scouts and family members from Scout Troop 150 and Cub Pack 150, under the direction of Committee Chair Joanne Burfeind, assisted Noblesville American Legion Post 45 in placing flags around 1,000 flags at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.

“The Scouts were a big help and hopefully learned a little along the way,” said Post 45 Commander John Morris.

Troop 150, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Tim Triplett, meets on Thursday evenings at Cyntheanne Christian Church at 13151 Cyntheanne Road in Fishers. Pack 150, under the leadership of Cubmaster Matt Blasdel, meets once a month on the second Wednesday at Wayne Township Fire Department at 18441 Durbin Road in Noblesville.

Cicero BSA Boys Troop 103, Girls Troop 1030 & Cub Pack 103

Cub Pack 103 had assisted in placing flags on service member’s graves at Cicero Cemetery on Thursday evening, May 25.

Then on Saturday, May 27, Scouts from BSA Boys Troop 103 and Girls Troop 1030 took part in the annual parade hosted by Cicero American Legion Post 96. Under the leadership of Dan Biddle, who serves as Scoutmaster of Troop 103 and committee member for Troop 103 and Pack 103, participants marched to the Cicero Bridge where “Taps” was played and a wreath was dropped over the bridge in honor of fallen sailors and members of the Coast Guard. The procession then continued on to Cicero Cemetery where, following a 21-gun salute, a cross was laid for fallen soldiers, airmen, and marines. Several Scouts participated in the event as members of the Hamilton Heights High School Band.
