Marvin K. Phipps

August 25, 1944 – August 18, 2026

Marvin K. Phipps, a humble and courageous man, passed away on August 18, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on August 25, 1944, in Gordon, Neb., Marvin was a man of great character and was known for his generosity and love for his family. He grew up in South Dakota and joined the United States Air Force right after high school. After serving his country, he moved to Cicero, where he resided until his passing.

Marvin was a successful salesman in the building materials industry until his retirement in 2009. Known for his professionalism and dedication, Marvin was a respected member of the Builders Association. Despite his busy career, Marvin found solace in his hobbies, which reflected his love for nature and sports. His beautiful yard and garden were testaments to his green thumb. He also had a love for fishing, often accompanied by his grandson Warren. Marvin also had a deep admiration for baseball, particularly for the NY Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals. His passion for Western culture was reflected in his collection of Remington art pieces and his enjoyment of old Westerns on TV.

Marvin was a loving husband to Laura Phipps, whom he married on September 2, 2006. His love extended to his family, his daughter, Kelly Hodgson; his sons, Christopher (Nicole) Hodgson and Jonathan Hodgson; his granddaughters, Audra DeLuna and Haley (Clark) Crumbpacker; his grandson, Warren (Dawn) Gingrich; and his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Casey, Jane, and Cali. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry and Jim Phipps. Marvin’s life was enriched by the friendships he formed, especially with Jesse (Shirley) Camacho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Winifred Phipps; his sisters, Darlene and Arlene Phipps; and his ex-wife, Janice Phipps.

Marvin’s wishes were for a simple cremation. The family will hold a private celebration of Marvin’s life at a later date.

Marvin’s care has been entrusted to Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home-Cicero. We invite you to share your memories of Marvin and upload photos to his memorial page, honoring the life of this generous, humble, courageous, and loving individual.
