Betty Mae Burger

Betty Mae Burger, 94, a spirited, funny, compassionate, and creative soul, passed away on August 20, 2026. She was born on October 1, 1931, in Lincoln, Ill. Betty lived an extraordinary life filled with love, laughter, and fond memories. She was a beacon of light in the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

Betty married the love of her life, Archie Burger, on July 8, 1952, a union that brought about a beautiful family. A retired cake decorator, her creativity extended beyond her profession into her hobbies. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing, often creating pieces that reflected her love for her family. Her love and passion for baking and decorating cakes were a reflection of her warm, nurturing heart. A lover of puzzles, Betty enjoyed challenging her mind and was known to enjoy a friendly card game with ‘the card girls.’ She was also a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan and relished outings to the dog track and casino with her husband. A lover of dogs, Brandy and Bebe (poodles) were by her side and held a special place in her heart.

Betty was a vibrant member of her community, serving on the board of the Oasis Senior Citizens Center, and was heavily involved in Relay for Life, inspired by her own survival of breast cancer. Her faith was a significant part of her life, and she expressed it beautifully through singing in the choir at the First Methodist Church of Lincoln. She was a woman of resilience, laughter, and love, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Joni (David) Conlon and Shelli (Kenny) Walters; her grandchildren, Zach (Tara) Gahr, Emily (Adam) Keiper, Shelby (Andrew) Foehner, and Allison (Zachary) Huddleston; and her great-grandchildren, Riley, Reese, Quinn, Wren, Skylar, and soon-to-be Baby Grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Ruth Musser, Ralph Camp, Clyde Camp, Robert Camp, and James Camp.

Betty’s wishes were to be cremated and buried with her husband at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Her care has been entrusted to Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Homes – Cicero.
