HSE Schools celebrates transformation of Fishers Elementary

One of Hamilton Southeastern (HSE) Schools’ oldest buildings has been transformed for a new generation of students.

HSE administrators joined staff, members of the school board and community members on Thursday, Aug. 20, to cut the ribbon on the renovated and expanded Fishers Elementary School, marking a major milestone in the three-year construction project.

Located at 11442 Lantern Road, the site has a long history of serving local students. The property once housed the original Fishers High School before becoming an elementary school in 1958. Additional sections were built in 1989 and minor renovations in 2003.

The transformed Fishers Elementary now offers more than 107,000 square feet of learning space, nearly doubling the size of the previous building. The number of classrooms increased from 28 to 36. Approximately 23 percent of the original structure remains and received extensive updates as part of the project.

“When you walk through this building, you can see how thoughtfully it was designed around students,” Superintendent Dr. Matt Kegley said. “It provides our teachers with flexible learning spaces, strengthens safety and gives Fishers Elementary room to serve families for years to come. We are grateful to everyone who helped bring this project to life.”

The building incorporates concepts used in the design of Deer Creek Elementary while incorporating enhancements for the Fishers Elementary community. Improvements include a more secure main entrance, an expanded parking lot and a dedicated bus area to improve traffic flow and student safety.

Wurster Construction managed the construction of the facility, which was designed by CSO Architects. The project had an approved budget of $45 million and was financed through the sale of bonds. The additional space will increase the school’s capacity as enrollment patterns shift across the district.

Construction took place in phases, allowing students and staff to continue learning and working at the school throughout the project.

“This project honors the history of Fishers Elementary while giving our students and staff a school designed for how they learn and work today,” Principal Dr. Emily Supergan said. “Our school community showed tremendous flexibility throughout construction, and it is rewarding to see everyone enjoying these new spaces.”

Students returned to the transformed building Aug. 5 for the start of the 2026-27 school year. They were also welcomed by Supergan, who is beginning her first year as principal of Fishers Elementary.
