Update No. 177

In the midst of last week’s flooding, we once again witnessed the very best of Northern Hamilton County. The compassion shown by our neighbors, the willingness to do whatever is needed, and the overwhelming generosity of time, resources, and support have been remarkable.

I want to recognize the extraordinary response we have seen across our county, from Hamilton County Emergency Management, first responders, county and township officials, volunteers, community organizations, and our Hamilton Heights staff members who stepped forward without hesitation to help others. Their actions reflect a community that does not wait to be asked but simply shows up.

People from every corner of our community have stepped forward to support those facing hardship, underscoring that our greatest strength lies in our collective care and the deep sense of responsibility we share for one another. Many families will continue to feel the effects of this flooding long after the water recedes, and we are deeply grateful for every act of service, kindness, and care offered during these challenging days.

It’s my pleasure to introduce the Hamilton Heights Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026. This year’s honorees include 1975 Boys Basketball Team, Beth (Hoch) Sperry (’88), James Duncan (’91), Maria (Mitchell) St. John (’21), and Coach Chuck Reeves. These outstanding Huskies have made a lasting impact on our athletic legacy, and we’re excited to celebrate their achievements.

A special luncheon and induction ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Hamilton Heights High School, 25802 State Road 19, Arcadia. Each inductee will receive a commemorative metal display, and their names and photos will be proudly featured in our Athletic Hall of Fame located in the Athletic Center.

Tickets for the luncheon and ceremony are $10. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Mitch Street at mstreet@hhschuskies.org or call (317) 984-3551, ext. 1092.

Our partners as the Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) and the Indiana School Public Relations Association (INDSPRA) have created a brief, easy-to-follow video that explains how Indiana public schools receive funding and how districts manage resources to support student success.

Understanding how schools are funded is an important part of supporting our students and our community. School finance can feel complex, but having a clear picture of how dollars flow to districts and how those dollars are invested helps all of us stay informed and engaged. I encourage you to take a few minutes to watch it and learn more about the financial structure that helps make our work possible. Watch the video here.
