Blackhawks handily take care of Tri-Central

Sheridan overwhelmed another Hoosier Heartland Conference opponent on Friday, easily winning its Homecoming game over Tri-Central 54-7 at Bud Wright Stadium.

The Blackhawks trailed early after the Trojans scored an early touchdown, but tied the game in the middle of the first quarter on a 61-yard touchdown run by Zach Bales.

“We were a little bit slow getting started,” said Wright. “We had a miscommunication on the receiver.”

But that would just be a speed bump for the game. Sheridan outscored Tri-Central 47-0 over the next three quarters, and made it to the end zone both by land and by air. The ‘Hawks had three touchdown passes, including two throws from Caleb Alexander – a 26-yarder to Evan Grinstead and a 13-yarder toe Keagan Hampton. Owen Bell also connected with Chance Spencer on a 12-yard score in the third quarter.

Sheridan’s ground game was solid too, of course. Bales ran in from 32 yards early in the second quarter to put the ‘Hawks in front for good. Peyton Cross, Trent DeCraene and Bell also scored rushing touchdowns.

“We were down 7-0,” said Wright. “We decided to come back and play then.” The coach said that once Sheridan got going, it held the Trojans to minus yardage.

Bales finished with 182 yards rushing, while Cross totaled 123 yards on the ground. Alexander went 6-of-10 through the air, totaling 120 yards.

The Blackhawks are 2-0 in HHC play and 2-1 overall, and play at Delphi next Friday to continue conference play.
