Jimmie Vaughan
8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9
The Tarkington

From chart-topping success with the Fabulous Thunderbirds to Grammy-winning collaborations with his late brother Stevie Ray and now a thriving solo career, guitarist Jimmie Vaughan has been a leading voice of Texas blues on the national landscape. His 2019 album, Baby, Please Come Home, earned him another Grammy nomination and a Blues Foundation Award for Best Male Artist. Last year, he released The Jimmie Vaughan Story, a limited-edition box set and book with more than 200 photos covering his life and career. Don’t miss this intimate performance at the Tarkington.

Special guest John Boyle

Opening the show with a solo acoustic set will be Indianapolis-based singer-songwriter John Boyle, known for his smoky vocals and intricate guitar work. Influenced by Americana, ’60s blues-rock and the acoustic singer-songwriter tradition, he tours nationally and has released two albums: Early Lights in 2018 and Prelude in 2020. The Center Collaboration 2022

The Center Celebration 2022 is only six weeks away, promising a fun but elegant evening at the Palladium that includes a performance by Straight No Chaser, among many other attractions.

Herb Alpert & Lani Hall in Concert

Trumpeter Herb Alpert rose to fame in the 1960s with his band, the Tijuana Brass, and went on to score hits with “A Taste Of Honey,” “What Now My Love,” “This Guy’s in Love with You” and “Rise.”  Lani Hall, Alpert’s wife, is a Grammy-winning vocalist and producer who first gained attention with Sergio Mendes’ Brasil ’66 and later sang the title theme for the James Bond film Never Say Never Again.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

Born to a well-known New Orleans musical family, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews has become a top young standard-bearer for the city’s unique legacy of sound. His new album, Lifted, finds the Grammy nominee and his bandmates tapping the power of their legendary live show with explosive performances that blur the lines between jazz, funk, R&B and psychedelic rock.

Emmy and Parents’ Choice Award winner Farmer Jason makes his PB&J debut with a highly interactive concert about farm life and nature appreciation. From the Kennedy Center to schools in the Australian Outback, Farmer Jason has entertained families while inspiring them to get outdoors and have fun enjoying nature. Farmer Jason is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Jason Ringenberg, leader of roots-rock band Jason and the Scorchers.

Designed for children ages 1 to 7, Faegre Drinker Peanut Butter & Jam sessions encourage young children to become engaged in the arts. Tickets are only $10 per child, with up to two free adult admissions included.

Tower of Power
8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30
The Palladium

For over 50 years, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music, with classic tunes like “You’re Still a Young Man,” “Down to the Nightclub,” “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?”

Known for its tight rhythms and horn arrangements, the Oakland-based band has backed many legendary artists over the years, including Elton John, Santana, the Grateful Dead, John Lee Hooker, Aerosmith and Bonnie Raitt. The current lineup includes co-founders and chief songwriters Emilio Castillo and Stephen “Doc” Kupka on saxophones, as well as other longtime members.

Opening the show will be Chicago-based Latin rock quintet Dos Santos.
