Sheridan Community Schools receives lunch debt relief through ‘Propane for Purpose’

Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) was one of 34 school corporations to receive funding through Keystone Cooperative’s Propane for Purpose program.

The program’s aim is to help eliminate lunch debt for students across rural communities. Keystone Cooperative hoped to raise $150,000, but surpassed the goal by raising $177,450. SCS was nominated and then evaluated based on enrollment, free and reduced lunch participation, and existing school meal debt.

The initiative, which launched during the 2025-26 school year, turns everyday propane into support. For every delivery stop, Keystone was able to contribute 50 cents, and then the Land O’Lakes Foundation matched funds. The funding will help SCS reduce outstanding student meal balances and allow students to have the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and succeed without worrying about the cost.
