Carmel hosts Indiana Jewish festival featuring arts, music & food

The Indiana Jewish Festival returns for its second year on Sunday, Aug 30. It will be at the Carmel City Hall Lawn from noon to 2:30 pm.

“We were so humbled with the response last year,” said Rabbi David Grossbaum on WISH-TV’s Daybreak Wednesday morning, Aug. 26. “We kind of took a shot in the dark, not knowing how people would react. We had around 1,000 people come out. It might have been one of the largest Jewish events of the year and we’re hoping to grow from there.”

Grossbaum says it is more of a cultural event with arts, music, and food.

“So open to all people from all backgrounds, and it’s really an opportunity for us to get to know our neighbors,” Grossbaum said. “It’s also an opportunity for the neighbors, right? That idea of being able to come in and learn a little bit and see Jewish people in their place of comfort and what they have going on.”

He reiterated that it is important for Jewish people to have a festival like this.

“I think it’s huge, especially with the climate of politics and geopolitics and international stuff and local stuff,” he said. “Sometimes you put down all your microphones, no one comes with any agendas, and you just share good food, good music, and good art with people.”
