Sheridan Elementary School recently wrapped up its annual “Fill the Pantry” project, a heartwarming initiative aimed at supporting Mama’s Cupboard, a local food pantry.

Principal Valerie Roberts expressed her enthusiasm for the project.

“Each year our school tries to complete one caring hearts project during the holiday season, and this year we kept those efforts right at home,” Roberts said. “The needs in our community are great, so we wanted to give back locally and help our own families.”

The initiative saw the entire school community coming together to collect much-needed supplies for Mama’s Cupboard, a local organization dedicated to assisting those facing food insecurity. Roberts emphasized the importance of instilling a sense of community and empathy in the students, teaching them the value of giving back to those in need.

One of the highlights of the project was the involvement of the fifth-grade Kindness Squad, a group organized by Mrs. Amy Lents, the school counselor. The Kindness Squad played a crucial role in loading and delivering the collected supplies to Mama’s Cupboard.

The “Fill the Pantry” project serves as a shining example of how a school community can come together to make a real and tangible difference in the lives of local families. By focusing their efforts on supporting Mama’s Cupboard, Sheridan Elementary School not only addressed the immediate needs of their community but also set an inspiring precedent for future acts of kindness.

As the holiday season approaches, Sheridan Elementary School’s “Fill the Pantry” project serves as a reminder that, even in challenging times, the spirit of giving can bring joy and relief to those who need it most. The initiative not only filled Mama’s Cupboard with essential supplies but also filled the hearts of the entire school community with the warmth that comes from helping others.
