The Hamilton Heights boys basketball team dropped a home game to Maconaquah 62-54 last Saturday.

The Braves led 20-10 after one quarter. The Huskies battled to climb back in the other three periods, getting within 35-26 at halftime and 49-42 after three quarters.

“In the second half, we got it to three, so we did a great job climbing back and just couldn’t get over the hump,” said Heights coach Chad Ballenger.

John Irion scored 17 points for the Huskies, followed by Dreydin Serna with 12 and Tillman Etchison with 10. Irion and Tyler Champion both had six rebounds, while Etchison dished out five assists.

The Braves’ Josiah Ball finished with 30 points; he is one of the top scorers in the state.

“We just lost him at times,” said Ballenger. “We spent a pretty good chunk this week on wanting to control him, and I just thought we gave him too many easy looks.”

Heights is 7-8 and plays at Hagerstown on Tuesday, then hosts Tipton on Friday in a game that will decide the Hoosier Conference East Division champion.
