Heights girls finish as team runner-up, Guerin Catholic boys place third

HH’s Woolever wins high jump, GC sets two records

Hamilton Heights and Guerin Catholic both had strong finishes at the Small School portion of the Hoosier State Relays on Saturday, March 28 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum.

The Huskies girls earned team runner-up honors, scoring 69 points. Bishop Chatard won the meet with 97 points.

Waverly Woolever picked up a win in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches. Woolever also participated in the runner-up 4×400 relay, teaming with Norah Reiger, Gracie Bortone and Reagan Van Kirk.

All four of Heights’ relays finished in the top seven, with the 4×800 relay placing third, the distance medley relay taking fourth and the 4×200 relay finishing in seventh. The Huskies also landed three runners in the top six of the 3200 run; Lillian Higgins led the way by taking third.

Guerin Catholic’s girls finished tied for ninth with 18 points. Amelia Smith led a 1-2 result in the pole vault; she dominated that event by setting a new record of 13 feet, 0.25 inches. Zoe Travelsted placed second by clearing 10 feet, 9 inches.

Another Smith record

Seffrin Smith was a double winner for the Golden Eagles boys team. He set a new record in the 60 hurdles with a victorious time of 8.03 seconds. Later, Smith joined Nolan Ratcliff, Isaac Justin and James Moody to win the 4×200 relay. The relay squad finished in 1 minute, 30.54 seconds.

Guerin Catholic tied for third as a team, scoring 36 points. Bishop Chatard won the meet with 59 points.

Hamilton Heights’ Will Duncan finished second in the shot put, accounting for all eight of the Huskies’ team points. Heights tied for 21st as a team.

  1. The picture of the pole vaulter is not Amelia Smith. That is her teammate Zoe Travelsted.
