Sheridan girls soccer will be strong this season

Editor’s note: The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s Accelerated English 9 class, taught by Ellie Arrowood.

Last year, the girls soccer program had a very amazing season. Their record was 12-4. They also played tough teams like Lebanon, which went 13-4, and Faith Christian, which went 16-2. They were also conference champions last year. They played very well last season and are looking to be amazing again this season.

This season looks very strong because we didn’t have many people graduate from last season. We also have some new, exciting faces that joined. The team is looking forward to this season because we have very talented people, and we are looking promising this season. What makes us strong is the leadership, which in soccer is very important because you need a strong leader who is able to make everyone work together. The main leaders we have on the field are our captains, who are Molly Pottorff, Avery Hills, Sadie Timme, and Bailey Whitacare. They are making sure everyone knows what they are doing on the field and what their job is.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Sheridan girls played Frankfort High School, and they won the game 10-0. What went well in this game was our passing and communication on the field and working as a team. We also showcased how strong of a defensive line we have and how aggressive we are. We also learned from this game what we need to work on and where our strengths are.

What I hope to learn as a freshman on this team is how to be a better soccer player, learn more skills, and just become a better player than I was before. I also hope to learn how to be a better goalkeeper.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season is like with such an amazing team and coaching staff.
