The Carmel Christkindlmarkt staff have announced the winners of the first Kulturecke Docent Scholarship Program, sponsored by the Indiana German Heritage Society.

The participants were asked to submit an essay answering the prompt, “German immigrants have made significant contributions to culture and traditions in the State of Indiana. In 500 words, describe a German cultural tradition that you see alive in the state today, and why you think it has remained an impactful part of Hoosier living history.”

Amy Cooke won first place and received a $1,000 scholarship. She attends Fishers High School, Class of 2025. Megan Munson won second place and received a $500 scholarship. Munson attends Carmel High School, Class of 2026, and is also a former Christkind. Camille Short won third place and received a $250 scholarship. She attends Center Grove High School, Class of 2024.

As part of their roles as docents, these winners are present in the Kulturecke to share facts about German holiday traditions and help guests navigate and enjoy the space.

“We are thrilled to offer this new scholarship program this year, and we are very pleased with our three winners,” Carmel Christkindlmarkt CEO Maria Murphy said. “We hope our guests enjoy meeting them in the Kulturecke this year, and we can’t wait to continue this program in the future.”

The docents are on site at the Market during select times. For a full look at the Market’s 2023 schedule, please carmelchristkindlmarkt.com/schedule.
