Ascension St. Vincent Fishers recently broke new ground in innovative surgical procedures when it used a single-port robot to perform urology prostatectomies.
The Fishers hospital is the first Ascension St. Vincent hospital in Indiana to use the single-port robot. It is only the third of its kind currently being used across the state.
Dr. Colin Linke, a urologist partnered with Ascension St. Vincent, successfully performed the first single-port surgery last week, marking an important milestone for the medical team in Fishers and a significant advancement for the community. Single-port robotic procedures are precision surgeries that lead to excellent outcomes and significantly decreased recovery time for patients.
“In the single-port technique, a single two-inch incision is made to insert all robotic tools,” Dr. Linke said. “We can direct these tools to diverge internally as they perform the surgery. In essence, we are able to get into a smaller space and operate more precisely in the area each patient needs.”
The initial uses of the single-port robot focused on urology prostatectomies, with plans to expand to breast, colorectal, gynecology, and other specialties in the future.
“At Ascension St. Vincent Fishers, we are more than just a small, suburban hospital,” Ascension St. Vincent Hospital President Aleks Overbey said. “We are committed to advancing minimally invasive surgical options and improving patient outcomes to benefit the growing population we serve in this community and across Hamilton County.”
