Flood-affected residents encouraged to seek alternative housing
The Hamilton County Health Department reminds residents to take precautions when dealing with mold following recent flooding. Mold can pose serious health risks, including asthma attacks, allergic reactions, and eye and skin irritation.
Residents entering or cleaning moldy areas should wear an N95 mask, protective gloves, and goggles. Children, people with breathing problems, and those with weakened immune systems should stay away from moldy areas.
Water-damaged materials should be removed and affected areas dried as quickly as possible. Residents should not use fans if mold is already present, as they may spread mold, and cleaning products should never be mixed. Extensive mold cleanup may require help from a qualified professional.

LeMaster
“Residents should not stay in a home where there is significant mold growth,” Health Department Administrator Jason LeMaster said. “Mold exposure can cause serious health problems, and we don’t want anyone putting their health at risk while trying to recover from flooding. Temporary housing is available to anyone whose house has been damaged by flood waters.”
Residents who need temporary housing must register with Indiana 211 and mark the “temporary housing” box on the questionnaire. Disaster-response teams will use this information to place eligible households in safe temporary housing.
