Dear Editor:

Democratic Party fortune took a surprising upturn last Tuesday (even here in Hamilton County) as voters decided they had had enough of the GOP’s and the President’s lack of success with cost of living issues and the war. The overwhelming turnaround in Congress, governorships, and in statehouses was unexpected in its magnitude and its diversity.

I only hope that the mainstream establishment Dems will get past the newer out-of-touch socialist members’ ambitions to change America – as well as some longtime Trump-haters’ hopes to promote a ream of investigations ad nauseam. If that is all they accomplish, it will be a short victory celebration. I do not think that is the change most Americans are seeking.

We have aches in our pocketbooks. The war has caused many prices to soar based on the higher fuel costs that resulted from the conflict. Will forcing an end to the war make that better? Not quickly, I would guess. This war is difficult for most Americans to justify – especially since Mr. Trump is the Commander in Chief. But, if the resolution leaves Iran with nuclear capabilities in the future … the future isn’t what it oughta be.

Many in the media, even on the left, are wondering if the next two years will feature the typical Democratic “overreaches” that get the country nowhere and add to U.S. citizens’ unhappiness.

The reins of power haven’t been handled well by either party of late. Let’s hope the Dems take the opportunity to do something different this time.

For some reason, my hopes aren’t very high.
