A freshman at Sheridan High School is taking pictures of the marching band, even though he has no experience with that kind of photography.

Hoffman
Waylon Hoffman is a freshman at Sheridan High School who participates in concert band, playing the French horn. Despite not receiving any lessons on using a camera, he takes pictures for the marching band. The idea of being the honorary photographer was given to him by Morgan Ciambella. The band needed pictures, and Hoffman was the only one not in the marching band. At first, his photography skills weren’t the greatest, but he’s slowly figuring out how to shoot good photos.
Hoffman started band back in middle school, and he is currently the only horn player in Sheridan High School. As the only French horn player, he quickly grew a love for all things band.
When marching band became required, Mr. Cronin, the band director, gave him permission to take pictures of the marching band practicing. He’s also lucky that he has previously used his grandmother’s camera to take pictures of birds and squirrels. This little bit of experience has allowed him to start with some knowledge of photography, as well as grow his love for it. He’s still in band because of this.
Right now, the marching band isn’t doing very much other than pre-game shows. However, there is a plan to go to marching competitions in the future. Hoffman will probably still be taking pictures of their practices. The middle school bands have also grown. This means there might be more students in high school band in the near future. Overall, the band is doing well and will continue to do well.
Sheridan has given Hoffman a unique opportunity in the form of being the band’s honorary photographer. How much he has grown is impressive. He thoroughly enjoys band and taking photos of the band.
Sheridan is a place where students can follow their dreams, and Waylon Hoffman is a good example of that.
