Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) is beginning the process of evaluating its financial future following the outcome of its operating referendum in the Nov. 3 election.

Superintendent Dave Mundy expressed disappointment in the outcome, but ultimately thanked the community members who participated in the election and those who volunteered their time to share information and answer questions about the referendum.

“Of course this is not the outcome we wanted,” Mundy said. “But as we always have; we will do everything in our power to make SCS an amazing experience for all who attend. We will take some time to analyze where we stand, and while we might have some tough decisions to make in the coming months, we will continue to make those decisions with all of our staff, our students, and our families in mind.”

The referendum outcome, combined with the financial impact of recent state legislation (SEA 1), places the district in a challenging financial position. In the coming months, district leadership will work with staff and the School Board to evaluate the budget, consider potential adjustments, and identify ways to continue the district’s core mission, which is creating future leaders.

Mr. Tyler Henning, School Board President, emphasized that “future considerations will be intentional and centered on the needs of the entire district, with students remaining at the heart of every decision.”

Although the financial landscape may look slightly different in the coming years, SCS remains committed to its students, staff, families, and community. It is and continues to be a GREAT day to be a Blackhawk.
