The Westfield High School Varsity Softball team combined purpose, gratitude, and strong play on April 2 during its Cancer Awareness Game at Monon Fields Complex, defeating Pendleton Heights High School 7-3.
The evening was centered on honoring individuals and families impacted by cancer. Recognized during the event were Dan McMahon, honored by his family and granddaughter, senior Sofia Easterhaus, Terry Mallory and family, and Coach Matt Moore in honor of his late mother and father.
On the field, the Shamrocks delivered an impressive team performance with 11 hits.
Sydney Jordan led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate. Sofia Easterhaus went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Bella Blakely and Makayla Watson each added multiple hits.
In the circle, Makenzie Delph provided dominant relief pitching, throwing three scoreless innings to help secure the victory.
While the final score favored Westfield, the larger win came in the shared support, remembrance, and community connection shown throughout the night.
The Westfield Varsity Softball program remains committed to using athletics as a platform to celebrate others, honor stories that matter, and strengthen the community it represents.
