Huskies find redemption at Twin Lakes

Hamilton Heights got a big rebound victory on Friday, as the Huskies traveled to Twin Lakes and came home with a 43-0 win.

Heights was trying to come back from a loss to Western the previous week, and did so in nice fashion, shutting out the Indians while topping the 40-point mark for the second time this season.

“We had really solid play in all three facets of the game,” said Huskies coach Jon Kirschner. “We bounced back.”

Trey Ehman was the star of the first half, scoring all three of Heights’ touchdowns.  Ehman scored from all over the place, making a three-yard run and 43-yard run in the first quarter, then jogging in from 19 yards in the second period. Teigan Scoles hit a pair of extra-point kicks, and an Eric Balcom two-point conversion run was the finishing touch on a 22-0 halftime lead.

The Huskies kept up the pace in the second half. Ehman blasted off on a 75-yard touchdown run, then Cooper Vondersaar caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Bodie Derrer late in the third. Owen VanHaaren completed the Heights scoring with a 32-yard touchdown rush in the fourth. Teigan Scoles was 5-for-5 kicking extra points.

“We’re playing pretty well,” said Kirschner. “We’re getting a little healthier.” Heights had Mason Moran back in the lineup, and he helped out with a couple of quarterback sacks.

Vincent Harley and Michael Cain both had big games. Kirschner said they were “two standouts tonight that just came like freight trains” on defense and special teams. “A lot of big hits and a lot of clean hits, too,” said Kirschner.

Trey Ehman and Owen VanHaaren “ran the ball extremely well tonight,” said Kirschner. Ehman totaled 194 yards, while VanHaaren gained 103 yards. Kirschner pointed out that two running backs combing for over 300 yards doesn’t happen “without great play from your offensive line as well.”

Heights totaled exactly 400 yards of offense – 301 yards rushing and 99 yards passing.

“It shows progress on all sides,” said Kirschner. “We’re making progress and continuing to get better each week, and that’s what we want.”

The Huskies are 4-2 and host Tipton next Friday.
