Doggone fun at Heights MS annual Dawg-a-thon

The seventh annual Dawg-a-thon raised nearly $13,000 for Hamilton Heights Middle School.

Megan Mathew, head of the PE/Health Department at HHMS, has been spearheading the outdoor fun and fitness event for the past six years. Under her leadership, the event has grown to include inflatables, a wiffle ball tournament, a variety of PE games and activities, and concessions in addition to walking around the track throughout the day.

The daylong event, open to all students and staff, helps raise money for innovative ideas and needs to benefit students and staff that arise during the year and outside the established budget.

“These funds allow us to say ‘yes’ to more student activities, learning opportunities, instructional resources and professional development for staff that would otherwise be unavailable,” said HHMS Principal Bret Bailey. “We are also able to help support smaller student clubs that have limited budgets. We can ensure that meaningful staff-led initiatives can become a reality by providing the time, equipment and training necessary to provide rich learning experiences for our students. We are also able to provide fun awards and Husky gear for students and staff throughout the year.”

“It’s a day everyone can enjoy while helping to raise money to funnel back into the classroom that truly makes a difference,” added Mathew, who continues to grow the event in size and scope. “It’s something the students look forward to in May as school draws to a close.”
