The Crossroads Chapter of the National Charity League (NCL) recently donated $150 to the Westfield Youth Assistance Program (WYAP) to support the Summer Meals Program. The Summer Meals Program feeds eligible children within the Westfield Washington School District during summer vacation. The NCL donation was made by the Classes of 2020 ($50) and 2021 ($100) – high school sophomores and juniors, most who are part of the district.

“It is wonderful to see these amazing young ladies give back so much to their community. Their financial donation allows us to feed one child for the entire summer,” says Christine Brown, Early Intervention Advocate, WYAP.

Enrolled families receive weekly food distribution during June and July. For some children, their only meals for the day are the breakfast and lunch provided by the schools. This means that during breaks, it is possible they will not eat or their meals will be sporadic. WYAP and its partners are working to ensure no child goes hungry during the summer.

Kim Harvey, president of the NCL Crossroads Chapter, says WYAP and NCL are natural community partners: “We strive to empower and encourage young women and their mothers to become engaged in their community through their leadership and service. This donation gives our girls a tangible way to see their impact.”

The Summer Meals Program partners include Sodexo, Student Impact, Westfield Washington Schools, Westfield Washington Township and Westfield Youth Assistance Program.
