Celebrate Delaware Township’s 200th birthday next month

Delaware Township was established in 1823 by the Hamilton County Commissioners, one of whom was William Conner.

The meeting was held at the Conner home, where it was determined that the county would be subdivided into two townships – White River for the northern half and Delaware for the southern half. John Kirkendall was appointed as the Delaware Township “Overseer of the Poor.” His primary duty was to seek out those living in Delaware Township who were in need of basic necessities such as firewood, fuel, and food.

This duty remains yet today with the Delaware Township Trustee, currently Debbie Driskell.

Please help celebrate the township’s 200th birthday on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the Delaware Township Community Center, 9094 E. 131st St., Fishers. The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. with a short program at 3:30 p.m.

There will be door prizes and giveaways, carolers, Santa, cookies & cocoa for the kiddos, along with a craft beginning at 4 p.m. The entire family is welcome to join in the celebration, which will conclude at 7 p.m.

All are welcome to this free event. RSVP is appreciated but not required. Go to tinyurl.com/DelawareTwp200.
