Winners will receive cash prizes & have their books published
The Westfield Library Foundation (WLF) is sponsoring a Children’s Book Writing Contest in celebration of America’s 250th Birthday. This year’s theme, “America’s Birthday Adventure,” encourages writers to create a story about a child or teen who discovers a magical history book in the library and is transported on an unforgettable journey through American history.

“We are excited to see the creativity and imagination that this contest inspires,” WLF Executive Director Erin Downey said. “America’s 250th Birthday provides a unique opportunity for participants to explore history through storytelling while celebrating our nation’s past.”
The contest is open to Westfield residents in three age categories: Youth (5 to 12 years old), Teen (13 to 17 years old), and Adult (18 years and older). One winner will be selected from each category. The Youth Category winner will receive a $100 cash prize, while the Teen and Adult Category winners will each receive a $250 cash prize. Winning stories will be published and featured at a special book shelving ceremony at the Westfield Washington Public Library.
Entries should be no longer than 30 pages and can be submitted at the library’s front desk or by emailing edowney@wwpl.lib.in.us. The deadline for submissions is midnight on July 1, 2026, and winners will be announced on Aug. 1.
