Steve Hague

January 22, 1962 – August 1, 2026

Steve Hague, 64, Sugar Hill, Ga., formerly of Carmel, played his final chord on August 1, 2026. Born January 22, 1962, in El Paso, Texas, to Mike and Nancy Hague, Steve spent a lifetime doing what he loved most: making music, building beautiful guitars, spending time with his daughter, and leaving people better than he found them.

A 1980 graduate of Carmel High School, Steve spent hours tinkering with things, especially cars. Shortly after school he started a successful business rebuilding luxury car but eventually his love of music and working with his hands turned into crafting guitars for players around the world. Music was the soundtrack of his life.

To Steve, a guitar was never just wood, wire, and hardware. It was a living thing with a story to tell. As a master luthier, he had an extraordinary gift for transforming pieces of wood into instruments of great sound. He pursued perfection in the smallest details, often the ones no one else could see, and earned the admiration of musicians who considered his creations not just guitars but works of art.

One friend beautifully described opening a guitar case from Steve and immediately sensing that it was something special. The craftsmanship, care, and passion were unmistakable. That same care defined Steve’s life. He poured himself into everything he built, and every chord played on one of his instruments carries a little piece of him forward.

Also, Steve loved dogs and was an avid fan of Caitlyn Clark.

Steve leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate for generations. Somewhere, a musician is picking up one of his guitars, playing a chord, and hearing the result of a lifetime of dedication, talent, and heart.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Mike Hague, in February 2026.

Survivors include his daughter, Kaley Hague; mother, Nancy Hague; siblings, Melissa (David) Rosal, Brian Hague, and Christine (Ryan) Birch; along with several nieces, nephews, and a great-nephew.

Though Steve’s hands have been laid to rest, the music they created will continue to play on.
