Tyler Trent Foundation golf outing set for June 9

The Tyler Trent Foundation will host its sixth annual “Tee Off For Tyler” charity golf outing on Tuesday, June 9 to continue raising awareness and funds to further its mission. Carmel native Tyler Trent died on Jan. 1, 2019, after fighting osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. Since its inception, the Tyler Trent Foundation has raised $4 million for pediatric cancer research.

This year’s event will be held at Brickyard Crossing in Speedway, just two weeks after the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Tyler was a frequent visitor to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and attended the race every year. In 2018, when Tyler was diagnosed as terminal, he and his family had the opportunity to ride in a truck lap before the race. He had the unique opportunity to watch the Greatest Spectacle in Racing from the top of the Pagoda, which is typically open to only professional event photographers and security.

“Hosting this year’s outing at Brickyard is truly magical for us,” Tony Trent said. “Tyler was an avid race fan, and holding our annual golf outing in his honor this year at this place that was so special to him is truly incredible. The Indy 500 brings people together from so many different places, and Tyler had that same effect – uniting people under a common purpose to support cancer research.”

Tickets are still available for this year’s outing and can be purchased online. For those not interested in golf but still wanting to advance the Tyler Trent Foundation mission, items are available to bid on in the silent auction, which includes VIP sports experiences, autographed sports gear and more. Returning for another year, there will also be a “heckle hole,” where some familiar faces in sports will bring their sideline energy to the green, using playful banter and some silly antics to keep golfers on their toes.

“It’s so meaningful to see the community show up year after year to honor Tyler’s memory and continue the fight against pediatric cancer,” Kelly Trent said. “Six years later, we still feel the love and support from those around us. This outing is about hope, healing, and the belief that together we can help fund the research that will save other children.”

The Tyler Trent Foundation continues to advance the fight against pediatric cancer through its recent $100,000 gift to support innovative research at Florida International University led by Dr. Diana Azam. This funding is helping expand a promising approach that tests existing drugs directly on a patient’s tumor cells – for both children and adults – to identify more effective, personalized treatment options. By supporting this work, the foundation is creating new possibilities for individuals facing hard-to-treat cancers and accelerating access to therapies that could improve outcomes. Dr. Azam will be at this year’s Tee Off For Tyler outing to share insights about her team’s latest developments and Tyler’s continued impact on research.

For people who are not able to attend this year’s event, donations to the Tyler Trent Foundation can be made online or through The Tyler Trent Captain’s Club, which allows contributors to receive exclusive access to the impact they are helping create with regular updates on the foundation’s work, special invites to events and recognition within the community.

The Tyler Trent Foundation supports local and national organizations targeting pediatric cancer research, including Riley Hospital for Children, Purdue Institute for Cancer Research, Florida International University and OS Therapies. During his life, Tyler donated several of his tumors for cancer research. Ongoing research is an effort Tyler’s entire family is passionate about.

Partners for this year’s event include Purdue University, Riley Hospital for Children, Florida International University, OS Therapies, Jim Foot, previous owner of First Ascent Biomedical, Amy Hascamp, Palliative Care Nurse, and Purdue Football Coach Barry Odom.
