The Sheridan Historical Society hosted an open house last Sunday to salute the coaching career of Larry “Bud” Wright, who retired as coach of the Blackhawks last fall after a record-setting 58-year run.
Wright is the winningest Indiana high school football coach in history with 464 wins, 463 of them as the Sheridan coach. He also led the Blackhawks to nine state championships. Wright was greeted by many former players and old assistant coaches, with memorabilia publicizing Wright’s many coaching triumphs on display for everyone to see.

Sheridan players young and old attended the open house. Pictured from left are Jeff Purkey (former player and coaching assistant), John Crowder (lineman entering his junior season at Sheridan) and Travis Wright (Bud’s youngest son and former player).

Former Sheridan players and assistant coaches signed a banner for Bud Wright.

Memorabilia from Wright’s coaching career filled the Sheridan Historical Society.
