The Noblesville Cultural Arts Commission continues its Vintage Film Series this month with The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919), starring Werner Krauss, Conrad Veidt, and Lil Dagover.
A mysterious carnival performer, Dr. Caligari (Krauss) has a somnambulist (Veidt) asleep in his cabinet. But mysterious murders keep happening in the village, and maybe the sleeper awakes sometimes. Noted more for its sets and atmosphere than its plot, this film is a German Expressionist painting come to life. The sets are all created at weird angles and with deep shadows. Completely unrealistic … ripped out of a nightmare. Come see why this film is still a major influence today.
The film will show in German with its original art titles, performed live in English by Glory-June Greiff. Live piano score by Roger Lippincott.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari will air at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 11 at Preservation Hall, 1274 Logan St., Noblesville.
Admission is free, and complimentary popcorn and beverages will be served.
The Noblesville Cultural Arts Commission and The Lacy Arts Building invite you to step back in time to enjoy this vintage film.
