With the death of Arcadia Town Council member Mitch Russell on Feb. 23, there is a vacancy on the town council.
Republican County Chairwoman Laura Campbell said Tuesday that under state law she will be responsible to fill the vacancy.
Persons interested in being considered for the position should contact Mrs. Campbell at GOP headquarters, (317) 849-9600, before March 15.
State law provides that the party to which the deceased belonged will fill the vacancy for the remainder of Russell’s term which runs through Dec. 31, 2023.
Since there is only one precinct in the vacated district, the law gives the county chairman the right to fill the vacancy. Russell, a Republican, was elected to the three-member council in 2019.
