It can be done, Indiana!

On my desk at home sits a faux leather plaque with the words “It Can Be Done.” It was given to me by my very special friend Peggy Grande, former personal secretary to President Ronald Reagan.

President Reagan famously kept this same kind of plaque on his desk to remind him and everyone who visited him that in the United States of America that anything is possible. I believe that with my whole heart and I think we need a reminder of that these days.

All around us we see kids who are anxious, depressed and confused. Around the globe we see war as never before in our lifetime. We should all care deeply about our world and nation, but I also cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for where we live. Here in Hamilton County, Indiana – a place that has thrived and grown, while keeping our taxes and cost of living reasonable. Our kids have state of the art schools and supportive communities. We need to continue working hard to keep the safety and security of our communities, our school test scores high and the education excellent for our children and also grow our local economy and have high paying jobs here to combat the raging national inflation.

What can we do as everyday citizens?

In my humble opinion, I suggest we set a vision of what life should be like in Hamilton County and then pursue that vision with all we’ve got every day! I suggest we work for our kids to have schools that focus on academic excellence for everyone, regardless of the color of their skin or what their family make-up looks like. I suggest we keep taxes as low as possible and only create regulations when absolutely necessary to keep us safe. Let’s envision a community that is friendly to all, supports businesses large and small and is a great place to live and worship.

Let’s focus on the fact that in America “it can be done” because we are one nation, under God with liberty and justice FOR ALL.
