Hamilton Southeastern Schools has shared that students across the district achieved strong results on the 2025 ILEARN assessment, reflecting the continued impact of student-centered learning practices and outperforming many other districts across the state.
According to data released by the Indiana Department of Education, HSE’s district averages for grades 3 through 8 were 66.31 percent in math and 62.5 percent in English/Language Arts (ELA) – significantly higher than the statewide averages of 42.1 percent in math and 40.6 percent in ELA. Depending on the grade level and subject, HSE students outperformed their peers statewide by as much as 20 to 35 percentage points.
Superintendent Pat Mapes praised the district’s educators and students for their hard work and perseverance.

“These results reflect the incredible work happening in our classrooms every day,” Mapes said. “Our students rose to the challenge, and our teachers embraced new systems designed to meet learners where they are. This progress is a testament to our commitment to student success and continuous improvement.”
The results are a direct reflection of the district’s strategic focus on early literacy, personalized instruction, and data-driven practices. Furthermore, the initiatives align with the state’s upcoming shift to a checkpoint-based ILEARN model beginning next school year.
As HSE looks ahead to the 2025-26 school year, the district remains committed to fostering academic growth and equipping every learner for success. Students return to class on Aug. 6.
