Oather Doyne Daniels, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
Born on June 30, 1934, Oather was the son of Oather and Orva Rosetta (Stinson) Daniels. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in Hamilton County before proudly serving his country in the United States Army.
On June 19, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Kay (Flanders) Daniels, and they recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Oather earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and later received both his Master’s degree and Education Specialist degree from Indiana University. He dedicated his career to education, serving both as a teacher and school administrator at Walnut Grove, Anderson, Brazil, Fillmore, Northwestern High School in Kokomo, and Cathedral High School in Indianapolis.
He was a devoted Freemason for more than 50 years, most recently at the Noblesville Lodge. He enjoyed attending church, playing cards, golfing, fishing, and bowling. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was famously known for his antagonistic, sarcastic sense of humor. His life was full of family, love, and laughter.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kay Daniels; son, Kurt A. (Rita Simms) Daniels; daughter, Kim A. (Donna Lu Harger) Daniels; five grandkids: Alison (Matt) Miklos, Jennifer (Jason) Sherrill, Andrew Daniels, James (Jessica) French, Shelby (Cole) Harber; and 18 great-grandkids: Mikey, Maisy, Connor, Colin, Aubrey (Branden), Addison, Anderson, Nevaeh, Natalie, Salone, Amaya, Justin, Anne, Kyrsten, Kinsley, Jim, and Atlee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oather and Orva (Stinson) Daniels; his brother and sister-in-law, Doral and Francis Daniels; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Mary (Burkhardt) Flanders.
A visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 8, at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home in Cicero, with a graveside service immediately following at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville, with Pastor Jesse Mullins officiating.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Serine Homecare, especially Amber and Misty, and to Visiting Angels, especially Tiffany and Lauren, for their compassionate care of Oather.

Oather will be remembered as a good Christian man, a gentleman, a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and grandpa great.
