Girls basketball roundup: Huskies overwhelm Mount Vernon

Another game, another solid defensive outing for the Hamilton Heights girls basketball team.
The Huskies won their second consecutive game on Saturday, beating Mount Vernon 42-28 at the Husky Dome. Heights was dominant on defense, leading 16-6 after the first quarter and 26-11 at halftime.
The Huskies didn’t let up in the second half, allowing the Marauders just two points in the third period. Heights allowed Mount Vernon 16 points through the halfway point of the fourth quarter.
Ana Collar led the Huskies with 13 points and nine rebounds. Kayla Kirtley added nine points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked three Marauders shots. Chloee Thomas also had a pair of blocks.
Heights is now 3-4 for the season and hosts Pendleton Heights on Wednesday night.

Millers drop HCC game to Avon
Noblesville dropped a 63-48 Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at Avon Saturday.
The Orioles led 15-14 after the first quarter, then leaped out to a 37-20 halftime lead. Emily Kiser scored 16 points to lead the Millers, with Mallory Johnson making three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points.
Noblesville is now 0-2 in the conference and 4-4 overall. The Millers resume HCC play Wednesday when they travel to Hamilton Southeastern for a 7:30 p.m. game.

‘Rocks run win streak to six

Westfield won a hard-fought game at Franklin Central Saturday afternoon by the score of 56-49.
The Shamrocks jumped out to a 17-11 lead after the first quarter, then led 26-22 at halftime. Westfield settled down on offense and was able to move the ball and hit some shots. The ‘Rocks led 45-31 after three quarters and held off a comeback by the Flashes in the fourth period to score their sixth consecutive victory.
Annabelle O’Hair and Ryann Bunting both scored 11 points for Westfield; Bunting drained three 3-pointers. O’Hair had a solid all-around game by grabbing six rebounds and making five steals. Jade Shipley handed out four assists.
The Shamrocks are now 7-1 for the season and travel to Mount Vernon Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Sheridan splits games at Triton

Sheridan’s girls team split a pair of games at the Triton Tournament on Saturday.
The Blackhawks dropped their first game to Leo 42-31. The Lions led 11-8 after the first quarter and 30-14 at halftime.
Audrey Reed scored 19 points and pulled eight rebounds for Sheridan. Nixon Williams also was solid on the boards with six rebounds, while Allie Delph had five.
The ‘Hawks then beat Lebanon 49-28 in the third-place game. The Tigers led 8-6 after the first quarter before Sheridan took control of the game by outscoring Lebanon 19-6 in the second period to take a 25-14 halftime lead.
Reed scored 20 points and reached double-double status with 12 rebounds. Williams pulled 10 rebounds; both she and Reed handed out four assists. Heather Barker added 10 points and Delph grabbed six rebounds.
The Blackhawks are 3-3 for the season and travel to Frankfort on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Tigers get tough win at New Castle
Fishers scored a tough win at New Castle Saturday, beating the Trojans 50-47.
It was a back-and-forth game throughout; the Tigers jumped out to a 10-5 lead after the first quarter, but New Castle came back to go up 20-17 at halftime. Fishers re-claimed the lead by the end of the third period and held on for the win.
Toni Grace scored 25 points for the Tigers and also had five rebounds. Kenedi London added 12 points, and Tamia Perryman grabbed eight rebounds. Lydia Stullken made two blocks.
Fishers is now 7-2 and hosts Mooresville on Wednesday.
