Dear Editor:

Fishers One [on Friday] announced its concerns with the lack of transparency and communication from the HSE School Board about the hiring of the new Superintendent and the continued progression of an agenda that many Fishers residents find questionable.

With the final decision being made to hire Dr. Yvonne Stokes as the new Superintendent of HSE Schools, Fishers One looks forward to collaborating with and holding her accountable to:

  • Restoring academic excellence to all HSE schools and putting HSE once again in the Top 5 in academic excellence in the state of Indiana.
  • Unifying our school board, teachers, students, parents and community through unanimous support for:
  • Curriculum focused on traditional education standards to equip ALL students for the future
  • Minimizing distractions attributed to non-core curriculum programming
  • Allowing parents to be responsible for the social and moral development of their children
  • Increased transparency about the hiring of school leadership, the establishment of budgets, and the communication to parents about new curriculum
  • Robust fiscal management with a specific focus on reducing the current $5 million budget deficit due to significant enrollment decline directly correlated to our academic decline. Of initial concern is Dr. Stokes’ lack of experience according to her resume of:
  • Previous superintendent experience which the School Board committed to the Fishers community as a requirement
  • Managing a school budget and budget deficit such as our HSE currently faces
  • Leading a large-scale school system like Hamilton Southeastern Schools

Fishers One is a grassroots, community-based organization dedicated to restoring academic excellence in our schools, maintaining Fishers as a great place to live, and cultivating the next generations of leaders.

We expect the best from all of our education and civic leaders and look forward to partnering with Dr. Stokes to ensure our priorities for HSE Schools are fully met in 2021 and beyond.

Fishers One

I would like to get involved to remove this critical race theory curriculum agenda from being taught to our youth. I find it racist at its core and teaching innocent minds to see race everywhere and propaganda aimed at dividing our country. Making white children feel ashamed of who they are based on skin color! What can I do?
