Hamilton County Commissioner Mark Heirbrandt has been elected to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO) Executive Committee.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO) is central Indiana’s federally designated regional planning agency. The IMPO develops short- and long-range plans to support local governments and advance the region’s goals in transportation, economic development, housing, safety, sustainability, and other quality of life issues.

“Commissioner Heirbrandt has been a long-standing member of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization, and I am happy to see him re-elected to another term,” IMPO Executive Director Anna Gremling said. “His steady, consistent leadership and presence has helped shape the IMPO.”

The Executive Committee is a small, elected group of policy members that oversee the operations of the IMPO. In addition to Commissioner Heirbrandt, the IMPO Executive Committee is composed of Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers, Todd Wilson (City of Indianapolis), Franklin Mayor Steve Barnett, Ryan Cannon (Town of Avon), Beech Grove Mayor James Coffman, Andrew Klinger (Town of Plainfield), Eric Wathen (Hendricks County), and Jennifer Pyrz (IndyGo).

Currently, all members are elected from the Transportation Policy Committee, consisting of elected officials and town managers who vote to approve all federally required IMPO transportation actions.

“I am honored to be elected by my peers to continue the important work of this organization,” Commissioner Heirbrandt said. “Collaboration is paramount to the progress and success of our region, and I am excited to continue to represent Hamilton County on the IMPO Executive Committee.”

In addition to his work with the IMPO, Commissioner Heirbrandt is also a member of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Transportation Steering Committee. This committee is responsible for all matters pertaining to federal transportation legislation, funding and regulation, and its impacts on county government.
