Carmel, Fishers swimmers named as All-Americans

No one would be surprised to hear that the Carmel High School swim program is one of the best in the United States, but it’s still nice to see it in writing.
The Greyhounds had several swimmers on the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association’s All-American list, which was released earlier this month. All-American honors are given to those individuals or relay teams that either swim in automatic qualifying time, or place among the top 100 in their event.
Drew Kibler was the top boys swimmer in two categories. The Carmel senior-to-be had the fastest time in both the 200 freestyle (1:33.30) and the 100 freestyle (43.20). Kibler also earned All-American honors as part of the Carmel 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Kibler has committed to swim at the University of Texas.
Sammie Burchill, who is off to the University of Georgia this fall, was the fastest swimmer in the 200 individual medley, in a time of 1:56.67. Burchill also received All-American honors in the 100 backstroke, and as part of the medley and 400 freestyle relays.
A complete list of All-American swimmers is listed below. In addition to the Carmel swimmers, Fishers’ Lauryn Parrish in the girls 200 free, and as part of the Tigers’ 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Cole VanDevender was named as an All-American in boys diving.
The NISCA released its Scholar Teams, which are based on a team’s grade-point average (4.0 scale). Both Hamilton Southeastern swim programs were recognized.
The Royals girls team earned a spot on the Girls Gold Award School with a GPA of 3.758. Southeastern’s boys team was named to the Boys Bronze Award School list after earning a team grade-point average of 3.366.
NISCA also honored its Academic All-America team, which goes to seniors with a GPA of 3.75 or highter. Those individuals are as follows:
BOYS – Ryan Cockman, Southeastern; James Broughton Davison, University; Charles Earle, University; Hadi Elgaali, Southeastern; Kyle Feuerstine, Fishers; Joe Moser, Fishers; Gavin Rue, Fishers; Zack Teffeteller, Southeastern; Ian Weiker, University.
