Carmel City Council reorganizes for 2019

This week’s meeting of the Carmel City Council was the first of the year for 2019 and the first to be presided over by new leadership. The City Council has reorganized for the new year, electing Jeff Worrell as President and Laura Campbell as Vice President for one-year terms. Outgoing President Kevin Rider was acknowledged for his leadership over the past 12 months with a special plaque Monday night.

In addition to those changes, Anthony Green has been appointed Chair of the Land Use Committee, Sue Finkam was reappointed Chair of the Finance Committee and Kevin Rider was appointed to be the Council’s representative on the Carmel Redevelopment Commission, replacing Jeff Worrell.

“We have an exciting year ahead of us in 2019 and I look forward to serving in my new role as President of the City Council,” said Worrell, who represents the Southeast District of the City. “I want to thank my fellow Councilors for having the faith in me to serve in this leadership role.”

The Carmel City Council is comprised of seven members elected to four-year terms: Two at-large members and five elected members from five districts throughout the city. The City Council constitutes the legislative body of the city. It has power over the city budget and passes city ordinances and resolutions.
