Boys tennis: Huskies win a 3-2 dual meet…again

The Hamilton Heights boys tennis team won a 3-2 dual meet for the third consecutive time on Wednesday, getting the victory at Taylor.
The Huskies swept both doubles matches with No. 1 Zane Remsen and Nick Rice and No. 2 JP Etchison and Josh Russell winning in straight sets. No. 1 singles Hawkins Hochstedler clinched the meet with a 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory.
This was a solid Taylor team tonight, particularly at their three singles spots,” said Heights coach Cameron Scott. “Our guys really had to battle for everything they got.  In particular, I can’t say enough about the way Hawkins worked his tail off tonight.  He got to some balls he had absolutely no business getting to and just didn’t give an inch for two sets.  Seems like for whatever reason, our guys are starting to enjoy these close matches.  It sure has been exciting night in and night out.”

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 22 in the state, were edged out by No. 16 Brownsburg 3-2 in a close Hoosier Crossroads Conference dual meet.
“We knew going in that this would be a close one, and unfortunately, we came up just a little short for the third point tonight,” said Royals coach Kirk Webber.
Southeastern’s wins both came from doubles. The No. 1 team of Andrew Myers and Mark Slaninka blasted through its match 6-0, 6-0, with No. 2 doubles Matthew Parker and Matt Meyer winning 6-4, 6-1.
The Royals travel to Fort Wayne Carroll on Saturday to play in an invitational there.

Westfield won an all-county tennis dual meet with Noblesville 5-0 on Tuesday.
No. 1 Parker Kalis, No. 2 Quentin Markle and No. 3 Harrison Sindelar were all victorious in singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Connor Maris and Carson Maris won a three-setter over Ben Smith and Evan Voigt 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. No. 2 Nicholas Mabe and Joe Day got a straight-set win.
