Elijah Bowers, Hamilton Heights senior, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Indiana University Purdue University-Columbus (IUPUC) in Columbus, Indiana. IUPUC is a member of the Continental Athletic Conference and is a NAIA athletic institution. He is the son of Tracy and Chad Bowers.

“Its small campus and small class sizes made me feel like I was a part of something,” recalled Elijah Bowers after his visit to the campus. “Their baseball coaching staff made me feel like I was family.”  Bowers will be able to take his game to the collegiate mound while pursuing a degree in business/marketing. His long-term goal is to become an entrepreneur in the sports-related or athletic footwear field.

Bowers, a multisport student-athlete (baseball and football), started playing T-ball at age 4. At age 7, he needed more of a challenge and his parents signed him up to play on a local travel team where he has been a force around the state and beyond since that time. During the fall and winter, he works with trainers to maintain and improve his strength, agility, and stamina.

“My parents along with my trainers and coaches have been my biggest influence as a student athlete,” said Bowers, who also credits Young Life for helping to grow his faith. “My parents sacrificed their time to get me to practice, training, and/or games on time. They always made me go even if I didn’t feel like it. My coaches and trainers also pushed me to be the best I could be and a lot more.”
