Ag Science classes & FFA back in action at Westfield High School

After over 30 years, Agriculture Science has returned to Westfield High School.

Students are encouraged to be a part of this fun and engaging program that will offer students an opportunity to explore more than 300 careers related to the Agricultural Bio and Life Sciences.

This program is relevant to everyone. Throughout our lives we all must eat, and through agriculture is where that food comes from, is processed, and eventually gets to your table. Everyone can benefit from a better understanding of how food gets to the table. Everyone daily interacts with plants and animals, and in the Ag Science program, students will study and understand the internal and external anatomical characteristics and functions of animals and plants.

Additionally, the Ag Science program at WHS will enlighten students about the environmental impact on the world and how proper conservation methods can keep this planet beautiful for future generations. Agriculture is so much more than farming, and WHS encourages all students to enroll in these courses to broaden and expand their knowledge of food, natural resources, plants, and animals.

All Ag Science courses will be dual credit courses with Ivy Tech, meaning students will earn both college credit and a grade-point average weighted grade.

As a bonus to restarting the Ag Science program, WHS has reopened its FFA Chapter and offers this club to all those students enrolled in Ag Science classes. The National FFA Organization is the largest student organization in the world. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

The Ag Science program and FFA chapter are officially up and running at WHS. Students are encouraged to see their counselor and change their schedule for the second and third trimesters to take these dynamic Ag Science courses and join the FFA.
