Jane Tyner, 104, Tipton, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at The Waters of Tipton. She was born on June 14, 1918, in Goldsmith, Ind., to Dr. Lloyd & Nellie Bly (Smith) Tyner.
Jane graduated from Goldsmith High School and Indiana University, getting a degree in Education. She did not have children of her own, but she was instrumental in shaping and changing multiple young lives.
Jane was a high school English and Latin teacher. She taught at Prairie Township and Jefferson Township schools in Tipton County for many years. Jane also taught at Western and Jackson Central, now known as Hamilton Heights, before retiring in 1963.
She was a member of Goldsmith Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christian Service, and American Association of University Women. Jane was a 75-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. In her free time, she loved traveling and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her nephews, David Campbell and Bill Campbell; and five great-nieces and great-nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret (Tyner) Campbell.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 26 at Normanda Cemetery with Deacon John Etter presiding. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.
