Many readers have been asking about the construction project in Noblesville along State Road 32 from River Road to State Road 38.
The ongoing work is part of a larger project to replace the signals at both intersections with roundabouts. Work over the past several weeks has involved moving utilities in preparation for the construction of the first roundabout at SR32/SR38, which the city expects to begin this year. Construction of the roundabout at SR32/River Road is anticipated to begin in 2023.
In addition, a median will be placed between the two roundabouts, which will only allow for right-in/right-out movement at the entrances between the intersections.
At an estimated cost of $6.5 million, the project is being financed by a matching partnership between the city and the Indiana Department of Transportation.

People using the road make mistakes (like speeding, running stop signs and red lights, turning left in front of oncoming traffic), always have and always will. Crashes will always be with us, but they need not result in fatalities or serious injury.
Modern roundabouts are the safest form of intersection in the world – the intersection type with the lowest risk of fatal or serious injury crashes – (much more so than comparable signals). Modern roundabouts require a change in speed and alter the geometry of one of the most dangerous parts of the system – intersections. The reduction in speed to about 20 mph and sideswipe geometry mean that, when a crash does happen at a modern roundabout, you might need a tow truck, but rarely an ambulance.
