Carmel High School to host Student Leadership Workshop
The Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) is launching a 30th Anniversary Campaign as a collaborative effort between school leadership to celebrate and reflect on three decades of student achievements and successes, while looking ahead to the future of the conference.
The anniversary campaign kicks off with the start of the 2026 school year, and incorporates all eight high schools in the conference: Ben Davis, Carmel, Center Grove, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, North Central, Pike, and Warren Central.
On Monday, Aug. 24, each of the eight schools will send 10 students and a staff member to Carmel Educational Services Center for an interactive Student Leadership Workshop. These students will learn leadership skills, form bonds with fellow students at MIC schools and become ambassadors for their respective schools. Students and school leaders will be available for interviews.
The Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) was formed in 1996-97 to provide a model for interscholastic excellence across academics, athletics, fine arts, and leadership. It was first formed as a “football conference” when some of the biggest high schools in Central Indiana struggled to find teams to play them due to their program size. Nearly three decades later, the conference remains the winningest in Indiana, with the most state championships of any conference, a long history of nationally ranked teams, and facilities that rival the best in the country.
Today, the MIC is home to more than 28,000 students across eight high schools that are located on all sides of the I-465 loop. The competitive nature of the MIC conference is credited with building strong programs where students practice, prepare and compete at some of the highest levels in the state of Indiana. The MIC schools are responsible for training and preparing numerous students for collegiate and professional-level play and performance.
Through extensive data collection efforts by communications leaders at each of the public schools, in the last 30 years, the MIC is home to more than 317 state championship wins, a long-standing history of nationally-ranked teams in various activities, and has trained numerous collegiate, professional, and even Olympic athletes for the next level.
The 30th Anniversary campaign will consist of joint marketing and public relations efforts, a shared website landing page, a video sizzle reel, a community tailgate kickoff, and leadership training opportunities for students.
