During a special event last Monday, June 15, celebrating the 100th anniversary of The Diana Theatre, the Paikos family announced that ownership and operation of the historic theatre will transition to the Tipton Main Street Association (TMSA).

The announcement marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of Tipton’s most recognizable landmarks while ensuring the preservation of its historic character and continued role as a gathering place for the community.

Since 1926, The Diana Theatre has been owned and operated by the Paikos family, welcoming generations of moviegoers and serving as an important part of life in downtown Tipton.

“Our family has owned The Diana since 1926,” Nick Paikos said. “The most significant result of operating The Diana here in Tipton has been the connection to the people of this community. We may have been the family that opened the doors and kept the movies rolling and popcorn popping, but this community has become the soul of this place just as much as any of us.”

Following a commemorative film highlighting the theatre’s history, TMSA Board President Rob Cochrane III announced that the organization will assume ownership and stewardship of the theatre and begin planning a new downtown revitalization initiative known as Project Artemis.

Project Artemis is intended to preserve everything everyone loves about The Diana Theatre while expanding opportunities for adaptive reuse, arts programming, live performances, and downtown activity.

“We are honored that the Paikos family has entrusted the Tipton Main Street Association with the future of The Diana Theatre,” Cochrane said. “Our goal is to preserve what makes this theatre special while ensuring it continues serving the community for generations to come.”

Under TMSA ownership, The Diana will continue operating as an affordable and accessible entertainment venue. The organization has committed to preserving the theatre’s historic character and maintaining its role as a cornerstone of downtown Tipton.

Prospective goals for Project Artemis include continued operation as an historic single-screen movie theatre, restoration and enhancement of the original performing arts stage, expanded opportunities for live performances and community theatre, additional programming for local artists and community organizations, and increased activity and investment in downtown Tipton.

TMSA leaders emphasized that the future success of the project will depend on community involvement through attendance, volunteerism, partnerships, and philanthropic support.

The organization will share additional details regarding Project Artemis and future efforts in the months ahead.
