Celebrating Sheridan’s past & the people shaping its future

Excitement is building in Sheridan ahead of America’s 250th Independence Day.

The town’s celebration will kick off with the annual Lions Club parade beginning at 10 a.m. on the 4th. Due to ongoing INDOT construction near Biddle Memorial Park, the parade will follow what many residents know as the traditional homecoming parade route, which runs along Main and 6th streets. Participants are encouraged to arrive at Sheridan High School starting at 9 a.m. for registration.

This year’s theme, “Generations of Independence: Sheridan Through the Years,” reflects the traditions, values, and community spirit that have shaped Sheridan for years. As a natural extension of the 2026 theme, Sheridan Events has introduced a new community tradition in the Sheridan Spark Award.

This award aims to recognize Sheridan locals whose leadership, mentorship, volunteerism, service, or community impact has helped make the community stronger. Neighbors are encouraged to nominate a Sheridan resident or business owner who exemplifies these qualities via the organization’s website, sheridanevents.org/spark-award.

Organizers with Sheridan Events say they believe the town has many people who quietly make a difference every day, and the Spark Award was created in hopes of recognizing those individuals, celebrating the positive impact they have had, as well as encouraging a new generation of volunteers to get involved. Spark Award nominations will remain open until Friday, June 29, with the finalists announced Wednesday, July 1.

The town’s Fourth of July celebration will begin at 4 p.m. at Sheridan High School and will feature a revival of the local favorite ping pong ball drop. Guests can expect three flyovers and many prizes ranging from gift certificates to private flight experiences.

The Park Avenue Band, taking the stage at 6 p.m., will bring music every age can enjoy. From Andrew’s Sisters’ swing to classic rock, the nine-piece ensemble will embody Sheridan’s Generations of Independence theme.

Other activities will include: White River Wrestling, a thrilling kid zone with inflatables, mini-golf, and nostalgic contests, food, vendors, and more free family-friendly fun. The organization’s Quiet Corner will also return as the committee remains dedicated to the effort to provide the Town of Sheridan community with accessible, inclusive, and affordable events throughout the year.

Before the fireworks show at 10:15 p.m., the inaugural Spark Award winner will be recognized and given the honor of ‘sparking’ the Burgerhaus Productions fireworks show by pressing a mobile start button and igniting what is sure to be a memorable display set to music.
