On Saturday, Sept. 13, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) will hold its annual Step Out Walk: Indiana to raise awareness and provide critical support for all people affected by diabetes, one of the fastest growing chronic diseases in the world.
The walk begins at 9 a.m. at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield.
Approximately 698,922 adults in Indiana, or 11.5 percent of the adult population, have been diagnosed with diabetes.
The walk benefits diabetes research, education, management, and prevention supporting ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes – and increasingly those living with obesity, as the Obesity Association™, a division of the ADA, expands outreach and education.
“We are grateful for members of our executive leadership team, the community, and the companies supporting our mission by joining us Sept. 13 to celebrate the work we’ve focused on over the past year,” ADA Indiana Executive Director Sarah Schmitz said. “It’s a great day to support all people living with diabetes, as well as the people who care for loved ones impacted by the disease.”
The community is invited to participate in a morning filled with engaging activities for everyone, and attendees are invited to wear red ADA gear, and bring banners and signs to show support for the cause.
“We are thrilled to have the Westfield High School band perform the national anthem at the event and the Westfield High School cheerleaders cheer on participants as they cross the finish line,” Schmitz said.
The Step Out Walk will also provide valuable diabetes resources and experts on-site to provide advice on diabetes management and prevention for attendees.
This year’s Step Out Walk is sponsored by Novo Nordisk. Registration for the event is free. To learn more about the 2025 Step Out: Indiana and register, go to diabetes.org/StepOutIndiana.
