Drewry Simmons Vornehm Jazz Series

Toronto-based electro-jazz duo Four80East combines electronic and live elements in its groove-centric music. Rob DeBoer and Tony Grace, the masterminds behind hits like “Noodle Soup,” Eastside” and “Cinco Cinco Seis,” have captivated audiences worldwide with their innovative and soulful musical compositions. Since their 1997 debut, they have released nine studio albums and a dynamic double live album. Their 2023 single “This Time Around” from the album Gonna Be Alright soared to No. 2 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart.

Stories and Songs with Roger McGuinn

Singer-songwriter Roger McGuinn co-founded the Byrds, who blended folk harmonies, Dylan-inspired lyrics and the Beatles’ electric sound to become one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Led by McGuinn’s 12-string Rickenbacker guitar, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers topped the charts with hits like “Mr. Tambourine Man,” helped launch the psychedelic era with “Eight Miles High,” and anticipated the country-rock wave with their album Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Throughout McGuinn’s long solo career, he has championed the preservation of traditional folk music. Don’t miss this special solo performance.

Known for his smooth tenor voice, contemporary R&B singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, and producer Brian McKnight has released 19 albums, selling over 30 million copies worldwide thanks to singles like “Love Is,” “Back at One,” and “Love of My Life.” His career honors have included 16 Grammy Award nominations, along with Soul Train Music Awards and Billboard Songwriter of the Year. Aside from his recording career, he has appeared in many movies and TV episodes, starred in the Broadway production of Chicago and served as a red-carpet host for Extra! TV.

Jay Leno is an acclaimed late-night TV host, stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, corporate speaker, TV and movie voiceover artist, pioneering car builder, and philanthropist. The Television Hall of Fame inductee spent two decades as host of top-rated The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and also hosts the Emmy-winning Jay Leno’s Garage, which aired for several years on CNBC and continues on YouTube. Other career highlights have included winning the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize, earning a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, and being the first person to drive the pace car at all major NASCAR events.

In four weekly sessions, professional comedian Mat Alano-Martin teaches the history and basic principles of stand-up comedy and guides participants in developing their own five-minute routines for a public performance Oct. 3.

Musician: From Hobby to Career

In five weekly sessions led by professional musician and songwriter Brett Wiscons, participants learn about recording, touring, sync licensing, branding, merchandising, and other topics, with guest speakers sharing additional insights from their fields of expertise.

Local Mix Music Series: The Wallow Hollows

The Wallow Hollows was founded in 2015 by songwriters Jonathan Hunter (lead vocals) and Dakota Girton (guitar), joined in 2020 by Jordan Willocks (drums), Ryan Webster (bass), and Dakota Huckaby (electric guitar). The group has played more than 250 shows across multiple states at venues including the Bluebird Café and the Stillery in Nashville, Tenn., as well as Hi-Fi, 8 Seconds Saloon, and the Rathskeller in Indianapolis. Its 2023 debut album, Carry On, has been followed by several singles, with more releases slated this year.

Peanut Butter & Jam: MARS the Melody Maker

American Idol veteran Marrialle Sellars (MARS) performs on guitar, with fun songs and engaging games to help kids build confidence while learning about rhythm and creativity. Designed for ages 1 to 7, Peanut Butter & Jam sessions engage young children in the arts.

Luminaries speaker series: Latin American Music from the Heart

Costa Rican soprano Yuriria Rodríguez, Associate Director of Hispanic Music at Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis, sings in both classical and popular styles and has been noted by reviewers for her “beautiful voice which recalls a force of nature.” Her presentation will explore the songs of Latina women composers and singers who have left a historic legacy in the Latin American music world.
