The Westfield Fire Department invites the public to share in today’s celebration of the new Ladder 384, being ceremoniously placed in service, with a traditional “push-in” at noon at the Westfield Public Safety Building, 17535 Dartown Road.
Dating back to the days of the horse and buggy, firefighters will wash the new apparatus and “push” it into its new home. This tradition is a family and public experience, as this truck will safely carry and return firefighters home while serving the community in its emergencies.
The new ladder truck, manufactured by Pierce, is a 100-foot mid-mount platform aerial device, that can be supplied water by an engine, to flow 2,000 gallons of water per minute. It will be staffed with a minimum of four firefighters.
This truck will also provide Advanced Life Support, as at least one firefighter will also be a paramedic, along with the other firefighters who are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).
Currently responding from the old fire headquarters on Dartown Road, the truck will be responding from a new firehouse anticipated for mid-year 2026. That station will be located at 1315 E. 191st St., the fourth firehouse for Westfield.
Today’s ceremony will last about 20 minutes.
