The Indiana Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday, Aug. 12, that cul-de-sac construction will begin on 256th Street at U.S. 31 next week.
Beginning on or after Monday, Aug. 17, crews will start cul-de-sac construction on the east side of 256th Street.
- At that time, U.S. 31 southbound and 256th Street through traffic will no longer have access to the east side of 256th Street
- Northbound U.S. 31 traffic will have access to 256th Street until approximately Monday, Aug. 24, when access is permanently closed off.
These cul-de-sacs are being installed as one of the final phases of the U.S. 31 Limited Access Upgrade project. Drivers needing access to 256th Street can use the interchanges at 236th Street or 276th Street. Editor’s note: Access to and from U.S. 31 still exists at both 246th Street and 266th Street.
Cul-de-sac installation on the east side of 256th Street is expected to be complete by Labor Day.
INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and use extra caution while traveling in and around work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
